Etymology

This is a Halloween-inspired seed name that came a little too late because of a small once-in-a-decade hurricane that wiped out my power grid. But you know what they say: "better late than never".

My Review

Here it is, people. The very first premium seed I've found in the post-update era. I'm very excited and you should be too because this thing is fantastic. The northwest corner of the map is riddled with nice mountains, buttes, floaters, and a magnificent shaded cove. There's a hillside village -- easily defensible. This level contains an oddly disproportionate number of pumpkins. Even where there aren't mountains, the forests and arctic regions are covered in interesting formations and full of nooks and crannies.

This seed had so many interesting things above ground that I had very little time to explore underground, so this seed probably contains a lot more stuff than is listed below. Amazing and worth at least one play-through.

My Review

Though failing to achieve any sort of outstanding achievements, this level is beautiful and a serious consider for those of you who like deep shadows -- something that has become depressingly rare in this new post-update Minecraft. Two dungeons and an eight pack of diamonds help flesh out this advanced map. Oh, and there's pumpkins!

Etymology

The French idiom "faire cul sec" translates into English as "make it dry". It's the equivalent to the American idiom "bottom's up!" when out drinking with your buddies.

My Review

The two big draws of this seed are the two mountain ranges found in the southwest and eastern parts of the map. There is also a fairly deep crater at 254.64.69. This board is riddled with shadows, making it unsuited for beginners. However, for users with enough experience, hiking these mountains is an interesting challenge. Negatives: there's no villages and the center of the map is basically a huge bay so getting around is a pain. But aside from that, it's a quality seed.

My Review

Pumpkins, pumpkins, everywhere! Theoretically, if you play the game long enough, the pumpkins will consume that entire south island. Beyond that, two really nice villages and some nice formations. The waterfall in the photo above was so beautiful, but equally lethal because it helps hide day-walkers spawning under the rock behind it.

Can't Miss

I found this humungous cavern just below the surface at 247.53.145. I will henceforth refer to it as "The Dark Theater". It's only a giant hole, so there isn't much to say about it, but it was really impressive standing in the middle of it and so I figured I'd mention it.

[TOP] This waterfall was absolutely killer. I mean that literally -- I died the first time I found it from angry skeletons whose arrows pierced first the water and then my flesh.

[ABOVE]This is a nice piece of shadow attached to what would normally have been an overhang save for this one rail-thin leg that's attached. I just want to hack it to pieces.

[ABOVE] This was hysterical. It's this perfectly formed town with no people in it. Where did the people go? Oh, well chances are they all fell into the massive hole in the middle of their town. This thing looks like a horror movie. I feel like an alien worm came up, ate all the citizens, then burrowed back down to hibernate.

Etymology

Chiaroscuro is the interplay between light and shadow. This applies to most artistic works like photographs, sculpture, and traditional painting.

My Review

This is a seriously challenging level. Both the nether and the top world have very little land to work with. However, there is a significant collection of underground features that will easily keep you busy and make trying this one worth the time to see. Also, if you're into clay, this is a level you'll want to check out.

The Nether

This is a wide open nether with plenty of lava, however the most interesting feature that I found was a lava fall that, due to the topology, splits into four different streams that then pour through the "fingers" of a rack shelf like maple syrup. It's a really cool thing.

The rest of the level is almost exclusively shelves, so unless you're playing creative, getting from one place to another is going to require some serious week-long bridge building.

[TOP] This is a really weird, bulbous spire? Butte? Overhang? What the hell is this thing?

[ABOVE] This is a view of the inside of one of the underground ravines (-63.32.303). The ceiling is open to the water above, so the entire midsection is difficult to pass because you're constantly being thrust down toward the floor.

Etymology

A playwright is someone who writes plays. It combines the words play (a written drama or comedy) and wright (a person who does work on, in this case, plays). Both words a old English, but the first instance of the word playwright dates to the late 1600s.

My Review

This is the seed to play if you want to see all the things that this new update has to offer. There are many villages peppered around the map. I love the flatland desert in this level. It's a really good spot to plant down a castle. There are a lot of waterfalls and floaters on this level. Very scenic. I recommend this seed to all advanced users while I continue my search for something a little more -- legendary.
