Top Rated Seeds: June 2013

The seeds I'm working on now will be for July, so thus endeth June. Here's the list of the top scoring seeds from the month.

  • [ 24.9 ] 99999999999
  • [ 24.3 ] mjolnir
  • [ 22.4 ] eastandwest
  • [ 22.4 ] stenograph
  • [ 21.6 ] hardyboys
  • [ 20.8 ] corpsdeballet
  • [ 20.8 ] crissandcross
  • [ 20.4 ] blackandblue
  • [ 20.4 ] chronograph
  • [ 20.3 ] abutment
  • [ 20.2 ] soubresaut
  • [ 20.2 ] 3sheets2thewind
  • [ 20.1 ] nauticalbynature

Also, there were two seeds that received a lot of repeat traffic even though they weren't as highly ranked as the others. That's usually a good sign that I may have missed something awesome:

  • voussoir
  • satyagraha

Today's Seeds: June 29, 2013

Today's offerings are all about graphs -- except of course for the one that made the top of the list which was me just fooling around and it happened to work out. I also found two fun landmarks: The Penguin and The Sewing Machine. "lithograph" has five free diamonds in a blacksmith shop, "autograph" has a large village with thirteen houses, and the eleven 9s seed has so many ravines you can't run from one side of the map to the other without falling into something.

Now, "myograph" is a special seed that you can't actually play because it has no trees. At least, it didn't have trees for me. Now, I don't know if tree generation changes each time you try the seed, so if you dare to play this one because -- you know -- you're INSANE, let me know in the comments either here or in the post if you had trees. With zero trees, the game is unplayable. I always suspected seeds like that existed, but this might be the first confirmed sighting.

  • [ 24.9 ] 99999999999

  • [ 20.4 ] chronograph
  • [ 19.9 ] myograph
  • [ 19.7 ] autograph
  • [ 17.9 ] phonograph
  • [ 12.1 ] lithograph

Seed Number: 999 999 999 99
Version: XBL 1.4 (TU9) (no PC equiv)

Etymology

I was just goofing around showing someone how seeds work and I struck gold. That's eleven "9s". Think of it as 999-999-999 and then two more 9s for good luck. Hope that helps.

Notes

I'm almost positive that there are so many holes and ravines in this level that it's impossible to walk from any one edge of the map to the other without falling into something. This seed looks like Swiss cheese. The seed contains a landmark rock formation I shall henceforth refer to as "The Penguin". You'll get why when you're standing next to it. Unless you look at it from the wrong side, in which case it looks like what's left after you shoot the penguin in the spleen. So just come around to the other side and you'll get what I'm talking about.

So Where's the Ender Portal?

Follow the snow to the penguin; when you find him, only a walk from his left shoulder to the bend in the river will give you the portal that you seek.

Of course, you can just look up the coords below like you always do. But doesn't that sound like something you'd find on a treasure map? You know you like it.

Nice underground stuff here, but the topside really has some amazing things you will probably want to see firsthand. I also found a really cool rock formation that I shall henceforth refer to as "The Sewing Machine" -- a combo medium land bridge and medium overhang.

Etymology

A myograph is any machine that is used to measure the electrical activity of a contracting muscle. This is most often applied to the heart, but sports trainers and scientists use other types of myographs to measure muscle endurance in athletes.

Notes

I want to be perfectly clear here: there are zero trees in this seed. In fact, the seed spawned me at the bottom of the ocean. Had I been in survival mode, I would have drown repeatedly and have had to close the game down.

This seed -- as it has no trees -- is impossible to play since you cannot make any pickaxes or anything wood related. So, I'm not telling you not to play this; I'm telling you... this seed CAN'T be played. I'm only posting it here as a warning to all other humans who might thing this name is quirky and want to give it a shot. This is why you should always double-check your seed names before you play; you never know what horror you'll unleash on yourself.

BTW, only the second nightmare seed, ever.

Seed Number: 133 305 7902
Version: XBL 1.4 (TU9) (no PC equiv)

Etymology

The phrase "three sheets to the wind: is a euphemism that refers to being intoxicated. It's a nautical thing. Sheets are ropes that hold a sail in place allowing a sailboat to use the wind to move forward. Large ships can have three or more sheets holding the massive sails in place. If those sheets aren't tied properly, they can give way and end up flapping around in the wind. As a result, the boat can't move forward, and just kinda bobs up and down -- like a drunken sailor.

Notes

This seed is basically a cluster of frozen islands. Trees are at a premium. There's a really cool mushroom island (see photo above) that's like tall and curved. There's also some really cool ravines in this one. The nether is cramped and sectioned into pockets. A tough one all the way around.
