Etymology

The Borgias were a famous family of popes who took the Vatican Church to a whole new level of simultaneous corruption and proselytism. Their hedonism, though admirable in most ways, is rumored to have dabbled in the incestuous. And their quest to consolidate their power came at the cost of the entire Italian peninsula. They are literally the definition of Machiavellian.

My Review

The hovering, twisted land bridges and overhangs of this Gothic and beautiful seed hold a debauchery worthy of their namesake. Throughout the level, random creeper after random creeper sits in silence waiting to make his move. Skeletons appear from inside forests to train their bows upon you. It's quite a thing. During the moments of peace, you're going to find hundreds of pumpkins all around the level... staring. Just staring. It's like you owe them money. Suddenly, you find yourself hiding in a cave, weeping at the thought of facing their collective grimace. Always watching.

Eh... anyway... there are some really nice caves to explore and of course plenty of wood. All told, true beginners should shy away but everyone else should at least have a look at this thing because it's truly beautiful. And infested with pumpkins. Grinning... always watching...

I have in my possession at least another four photographs that are equally compelling. This level has a lot to look at. Starting at the top, a striking overhang that looks a lot like the bow of a ship. Beneath that, you'll find a photo of a less conspicuous overhang and a small hole in the foreground that leads to a dead drop cave.

The two smaller images at right include a photo from within the "overhang valley" of a massive overhang that floats above the trees. Luckily, none of these overhangs are close enough to the ground to house zombies. Finally, this massive beast is only two blocks away from being a land bridge. These are just some of the many things to see and play with in this level. Good luck!

My Review

Well, while this was the lowest scoring seed of the day, it did have two things going for it. First, there were a plethora of trees all around the board -- so much so that at certain times it was difficult to move around (especially in the thick forests of the southwest corner). Second is the flatland -- which is of interest to people looking to build villages quickly without having to move too much block. I spawned on a tiny desert island in the middle of nowhere, but easily found a nice home when I swam back to the mainland. This level shouldn't be too hard for beginners.

My Review

Another dirty archipelago, this seed had a really high score that made it the second best of the day. There's an island for everyone: flat for a village, pure desert, cliff-sided, covered in trees... you name it. There is lots and lots of deep water (I didn't even know Minecraft allowed such water), so getting around is not easy at all. Even when you're out of the water there's almost always a tree in the way. I didn't actually find any lava "on top" of anything, so I guess this name is a bit of false advertising, but this level is definitely worth playing for advanced users. Oh, and if you like clay, then you should be here regardless of skill level.

My Review

This is an interesting lush forest level. I say forest level because it's thick with trees and, frankly, difficult to walk around in. If you ever wanted to build a mansion entirely out of wood, this may be your chance to do it. Sugar, clay, and black sheep can all be found in abundance.

My Review

Chances are, if you've spent any amount of time rummaging through the Internet looking for old-school legendary spawns, you've come across "icba". This seed has some of the most interesting mountains and formations you can get in Minecraft. Not to mention it's a well-balanced playable level that is perfect for experts looking for a challenge. This was the best seed I ranked today and is easily one of the top five I've ranked so far. It's legendary for a reason.

There is so much to see that I could never list everything. And these photos don't really do it justice. The first one just happened to be what I was looking at when I spawned -- a really nice waterfall and a scratched rock mountain. The photo at right is an example of some of the sheer spires and epic climbs that make this level so interesting and eminently re-playable.

My Review

There are five "o"s in sooooo (just sayin'). The two things that you're going to notice over and over again in this level are the epic supply of lumber and the really odd boxy mountains that dot the canvas. There are many wolves, here. In fact, I would highly recommend this level for any beginner looking to earn his or her first pet wolf.

My Review

One of the most beautiful and scenic seeds I have yet to come across. First of all, there were pumpkins in the spawn. This is the first time that's ever happened to me so that was cool. Many of the caves are flooded, so that was a bummer.

Can't Miss

Do you like to cliff dive? Sure, we all do. Well, virtually anyway. Well, there's this awesome spot where you can leap off a mountain top and land in water. It's an awesome ride. I spawned in the far north. There is a desert and lots of sand in this level despite what the photos suggest.

My Review

What can I say? I'm vain. The seed name is in all caps BTW because that's how my X-Box name is formatted. Good to know, in case you want to friend me. I played with myself (ha!) for about 30 minutes -- even after dark because I was looking for lava. I spawned in a massive sandy crater. There are many submerged caves -- which is inconvenient for hidi-holes but I noticed they usually had something interesting like coal or iron deposits. The southwest of the map has a massive desert with some interesting bits in between the long boring stretches of listening to your footsteps. However, I'm glad I stayed after dark because I found a cool lava pit with coal deposits and a nearby water source to make obsidian. That totally made this board worth it in my view. But check it out for yourself.

My Review

In this seed, you want to head due south for some fun. That's where the massive waterfall is, that's where the wolves are, that's where the caves full of baddies are. I spawned in a tree, which is usually a good sign for beginners. But this isn't their kind of seed. The terrain is foreboding, and no matter where you're going, you have to climb up and down to get there. Some of the mountains are so high that you can't see where you're going once you get to the top because of the clouds. That's when the creepers in the nearby caves come to get you. If you ever wanted a pet wolf (feed them bones), this is the pet store to get one.

My Review

A tiny island full of plenty of wood. A good spawn point makes this an interesting board that, while probably a bit out of reach for beginners, could make for an enjoyable experience for more seasoned players. Lots of squid and visible resources like coal. Most of the caves are submerged in water -- which can be a challenge. There's also an interesting set of sister caves (A+B, see below) that promises some good hunting.

My Review

I have to admit, I was a little nervous about using brackets in a seed. I knew it would work, but I didn't know if it would screw up the blog. I'm glad I took the chance. This is an otherwise nicely rounded seed that's just chock full of trees. It's crazy. I spawned in a tree. In order to get any photos, I had to climb trees. Deep, penetrating forest to the north of the spawn. There's even a tiny solitary tree on the frozen iceberg out in the middle of the ocean. The spawn is a tough one and because of the thickness of canopy, there are constant roaming enemies. I got blown up in the middle of the day. I don't think anyone but the experts should go for this one.

My Review

So, I know that so far I have been mostly down on all of the seeds I posted so far. That's because of seeds like this one. This is the best seed I found all day out of seventeen tries. This is an advanced board. Climbing the mountains is a tough challenge and if you end up deep in the forest, you can easily get lost and end up outside after sunset.

It has a fantastic spawn point that is easily renovated for any kind of domicile. Nearby is a plethora of resources. I found coal and iron. There is a wonderous variety and I would recommend this level to anyone looking for adventure and exploration.
