Etymology

Membership in the 27 Club is a dubious distinction. It is a list of celebrity musicians who have died at the age of 27. The three most notable names on the list are the three Js: Jimi Hendrix (prescription/wine asphyxiation), Janis Joplin (heroin overdose), and Jim Morrison (drug-related heart disease). The list began in 1969 with the death of Brian Jones (drowning, Rolling Stones) but didn't reach the popular zeitgeist until the death of Kurt Cobain (suicide, Nirvana) in 1994. Amy Winehouse is not included on the list as she wasn't a real musician.

My Review

Anyway... as far as the seed goes, freaking awesome! Your choices are overhang or land bridge as wherever you go, that's what you're going to find. I even spawned under a large overhang. What you're not going to find are any trees. This board is bald like your Uncle Harold. Plenty of wide open spaces, some nice flatland, and all the good stuff right in the middle so you don't have to travel too far. There's a lack of deep caves, which was a shame. I would never ask anyone other than a seasoned player to spawn underneath a large shady overhang, so this one is just for the experts.

The good stuff is right in the middle of the map. You're going to find large patches of desert and very few trees.

This was a fantastically scenic level and I got a lot of pictures. Narrowing them down to four was tough. The first image at the top of this post is of two neighboring mountains that both have large, shadowy overhangs.

As for the images at right, let's start at the top and work our way down. First up, this was a pretty decent overhang, though don't let the shadow fool you -- it doesn't go back very far. Next, this peninsular mountain guards the entrance to this cove.

Finally, this large butte marks the beginning (or end, depending on which direction you're headed) of the primary mountain ranges at the center of the map. It's a tough climb, but could be a great spot to hide from the bad guys at night.

My Review

This is a great grassland level with numerous small floaters hanging around. While wondering around, I heard zombies and other baddies underfoot on several occasions, which makes me suspect that there may be an intricate cave network laying just under the surface. That's a good thing. Beyond that, the deep caves are a treat and I found an amazing coal deposit that could probably result in two full stacks of 64 coal. I would check this one out.

My Review

At the beginning, this seed showed glimpses of greatness but ultimately proved to be a quiet little map. There are at least four waterfalls on this level. The south end of the map is where most of the action is. There were a lot of high, interesting mountains here. The other sections of the map are mostly rolling grassland and small forests. A nice map if you're not looking for anything challenging.

My Review

This level is a massive savanna, speckled with small caves and hidi-holes. The trees are mostly concentrated into tight forests and the resources are grouped together into tight deposits. How easy or hard this seed is to play depends entirely on where you make your home.

My Review

Well this is a nice, well-balanced level. You're going to find a large area of grassland with many pockets of dense forest. While there aren't many mountains, those that were generated were sporadic and very difficult to climb. I will tell you that I found one of the largest single coal deposits I've ever seen. That's not really a must-see sort of situation, but if you're playing this level it's going to be a bonus. You're going to need to be on your toes for this one; beginners shouldn't even consider it.

My Review

For this seed, I simply chose some random numbers. The odds are the same, so why not try it out. For the most part, this is a nice little seed. There are epic amounts of grassland, which makes finding wood an issue. Most of the caves I found are deep, pitfall-style caves so be careful where you step. Still, not bad for a noob looking for a challenge.

My Review

At first, I was hard pressed to find a good photograph for this one. Usually a bad sign. Then, I went back and played it again -- this time checking out the other half of the map and it redeemed itself. This seed is very scenic with hills made of both sand and grass mixed together. There is a particular massive cave complex that I found that really elevated the cave rating on this one. Beyond that, it's a solid seed that any beginner would enjoy.

My Review

It's a really nice level if you're into exploring caves or building on flat land. It could do with a few more trees, but other than that, you can expect an interesting game. The island in the northeast is almost completely barren, so I would avoid it and concentrate on the mainland, which is mostly grassland so it's easy to move around in. A few decent caves should keep you occupied.

Table-top overhang plus a dense cluster of trees makes this particular location dangerous with day-walkers. Caution when entering THIS forest. At right, while there are trees in clumps in various places around the board, predominately you're looking at grassland and rogue mountains.

My Review

The only thing keeping this from being ranked "suicidal expert" is the fact that what little wood is available is actually near the spawn and concentrated on an island near one of the corners. So you could attempt to take over both and have your spawn house and then your vacation home on the beach. This is basically a gigantic grassy island with lava pits and a handful of caves. However, being an island, the ocean that surrounds it has mysterious depths that are well worth exploring.

Items of Interest

There is a crater at 238.76.31 that was interesting. It's a hike from the spawn, but worth the trip. There is also a cavern at -113.73.-57 and a hole at -70.66.-38 that may contain some good stuff.
