Etymology

It's a pie with raspberries in it. Seriously, sometimes you ask me to explain the weirdest things to you.

Notes

Islands-a-plenty in this archipelago, but the main one is very large and full of trees and such. So it's ideal for people looking to play their first island level. The ender portal room has a side entrance -- something I can't recall seeing in any other seed I've taken a look at so far. I know it's minor, but worth mentioning nonetheless. For those of you who like their nethers less open than I do, this seed has a nice one.

Etymology

This is the movie where Lauren Bacall made the phrase "Anybody got a match?" into a thing. This movie strongly resembles Casablanca -- another of Bogart's films -- in that his character is reluctant to take sides in the war until he is convinced by the cruelty of one side to join the other.

Notes

If you love mushroom islands, then this is the one for you. There is very little in the way of resources and the odds say you will be stranded on an island with no trees. There is only one island on the whole map that has trees; it's in the north. You'll have to swim to get there, but you have no choice.

Etymology

Membership in the 27 Club is a dubious distinction. It is a list of celebrity musicians who have died at the age of 27. The three most notable names on the list are the three Js: Jimi Hendrix (prescription/wine asphyxiation), Janis Joplin (heroin overdose), and Jim Morrison (drug-related heart disease). The list began in 1969 with the death of Brian Jones (drowning, Rolling Stones) but didn't reach the popular zeitgeist until the death of Kurt Cobain (suicide, Nirvana) in 1994. Amy Winehouse is not included on the list as she wasn't a real musician.

My Review

Anyway... as far as the seed goes, freaking awesome! Your choices are overhang or land bridge as wherever you go, that's what you're going to find. I even spawned under a large overhang. What you're not going to find are any trees. This board is bald like your Uncle Harold. Plenty of wide open spaces, some nice flatland, and all the good stuff right in the middle so you don't have to travel too far. There's a lack of deep caves, which was a shame. I would never ask anyone other than a seasoned player to spawn underneath a large shady overhang, so this one is just for the experts.

The good stuff is right in the middle of the map. You're going to find large patches of desert and very few trees.

This was a fantastically scenic level and I got a lot of pictures. Narrowing them down to four was tough. The first image at the top of this post is of two neighboring mountains that both have large, shadowy overhangs.

As for the images at right, let's start at the top and work our way down. First up, this was a pretty decent overhang, though don't let the shadow fool you -- it doesn't go back very far. Next, this peninsular mountain guards the entrance to this cove.

Finally, this large butte marks the beginning (or end, depending on which direction you're headed) of the primary mountain ranges at the center of the map. It's a tough climb, but could be a great spot to hide from the bad guys at night.

My Review

There's some nice deserts and a few nifty mountains, but man does this thing have a lot of deep water. You could spend hours diving looking for cave entrances. It is very difficult to get around, so I wouldn't recommend this seed to a novice. However, there are plenty of trees, so if you were new and wanted to try a higher-level map, this would be a good one to start with. Head northeast if you want some mountains. Also, since this dirty archipelago has a lot of clay (including in my spawn). So if you're looking to build with brick: start designing!

My Review

What can I say? I'm a beach bum at heart. And this seed tickles my fancy with stretches of deep blue water the color of a Brittany girl's eyes peppered with a dirty archipelago that only an ocean-going explorer could love. It's quite easy to hunt down coal and iron on this level, so you're not going to have to walk too far to get going. However, making your way around the board over great distances is difficult, so if you're not happy with your spawn, you're going to be in some trouble. Not for the noob, but good for everyone else.

Etymology

Einstein's famous equation (known as the Mass–energy equivalence) is the stuff of legend. It allows physicists to explain mathematically the resting potential energy of any object and links energy with mass -- a theory which at the time was revolutionary. Little known fact, E=mc2 is not the entire equation... only the part that people remember. The full equation adds a term that incorporates the energy at rest. However, when I tried the full equation, I was not impressed, so I used the one we all know and it worked great.

A reminder -- the "E" in the above seed name is capitalized. Obviously, since the Xbox doesn't do superscript, the "squared" is just a "2".

My Review

This was a really nice level. There are many interesting features to see above ground, some interesting caves and complexes to explore, and a higher-than-average amount of resources floating around for the taking. But beyond that, the one thing this level will probably become known for are the really cool bays, coves, and inlets that are scattered everywhere -- especially the islands. I spawned in a tree; while usually a harbinger of good wood, the forests in this level are a patchwork mostly confined to the northwest island and the spider-web archipelago. This seed as a ton of sugar. The barren and icy-cold northwest portion of the map is the only major flaw in this otherwise excellent seed.

From underneath, this cluster of overhangs and land bridges scar the sky. The sheer cliff walls on either side create a valley that houses (among other things) a waterfall and a thick forest. At right, this is a medium-sized cave complex. At foot (out of frame) is a pitfall cave and there are some good coal spots in here.

My Review

This was a really nice level that I think can be enjoyed by any player, including people who are just starting out. This is a beautiful archipelago. I successfully dove off of two cliffs into water. Great balance and a predominately flat seed round off the reasons why you should check this one out.

My Review

The primary attraction of this level is the water: there is a metric ton of the stuff just everywhere. You could spend hours diving below the surface looking for secret spawns and caves. Aside from that, you're going to find a very balanced level that's good for noobs or the casual player. This archipelago features many flat islands and lots of clay.

My Review

Another dirty archipelago, this seed had a really high score that made it the second best of the day. There's an island for everyone: flat for a village, pure desert, cliff-sided, covered in trees... you name it. There is lots and lots of deep water (I didn't even know Minecraft allowed such water), so getting around is not easy at all. Even when you're out of the water there's almost always a tree in the way. I didn't actually find any lava "on top" of anything, so I guess this name is a bit of false advertising, but this level is definitely worth playing for advanced users. Oh, and if you like clay, then you should be here regardless of skill level.

My Review

I knew after thirty seconds that this write-up was going to need a full map. The northwest corner of this map is completely empty except for deep water. In the southwest is the primary island surrounded by a smattering of tiny islands. While normally spawning in a tree is a sign of good wood, if it happens to you, make sure you hack that bastard down and take it with you. Trees on this level are few and far between. This dirty archipelago is an outstanding level and I recommend it to anyone who has some experience under their belt and would like a formidable challenge.

My Review

Nothing like ending the day with the best seed. It really helps keep you focused when you're tired of searching for flowers. "juicypants" is an archipelago, with five primary islands, the largest of which is located in the northeast quadrant of the map. Tree distribution is awesome and the availability of hidi-holes on each island means that no matter where you spawn, you're covered. Beginners should have no trouble with this level, yet experienced players will find plenty to do too.

My Review

Visually speaking, this is a nice level to wonder around in, but it's not the most challenging board. I think it might be a pain for beginners, so that's why it got rated intermediate. Sadly, the last board I tested today and the lowest scoring one I tested today. I love cliff diving so that was fun. But mostly, it was swimming from one desert island to another.

My Review

This seed isn't going to win any Top 10 awards anytime soon, but I will tell you this -- the water in this level is epic. It's both vast and deep. I was at Y=57 for whole minutes at a time... except when I was breathing, of course. To say this is an archipelago is a laugh. There is a tiny island in the center of the level and then there are four big islands in each of the corners. Swimming is not an option. As for the islands themselves: unremarkable. You get the occasional hill, but that's about it. Worth playing to swim so far you start thinking drowning is the only way out, but not fun for anyone who isn't looking for a challenge.

At top, this was an interesting crooked spire that jutted out of a hillside on the island where I spawned. Actually, I spawned in the water (surprise), so this was on the island near me. At right, I was greeted with this view as I approached the island catty-corner to the one I started on.

My Review

A nicely balanced level with clusters of mountains surrounded by wide-open plains. You're not going to have a hard time finding wood because it's spread out over the whole board. There are no interesting formations. For a noob looking for a challenge, you might enjoy this board, which is a mainland body in the north and an archipelago in the south.

The image at top is a four-corners shot showing the distant snow-covered peaks of an interesting mountain. There aren't too many of them on this board, so it was worth documenting this one.

My Review

This seed is as cold as, well, the anus of a Russian mustang. It has some trees, but they are hell and gone from where I spawned. This seed is a trek: an archipelago with not-so-frozen water that requires a lot of swimming. Getting to and from resources like coal and iron is going to be a bear. Beyond that, not much is interesting. I did find an island that was literally infested with sheep. I'm not sure if that's always going to be the case, but I'll include the coords for Sheep Island anyway.

A four corners shot from the spawn point that shows how some islands are flat and worthless while still others are round and mountainous. It's an interesting mix. The photo at right is of... well... sheep! You can visit them at 191.65.-285.

My Review

This is an expert-level archipelago with a few caves and plenty of deep water to explore. This level has many, many chickens. I don't know why you would care, but they were quite annoying. Several of them did not survive my wrath. The main island has a large desert peninsula that may contain some surprises. In fact, I spawned there, but then headed off in the other direction scouting for trees. I found many... elsewhere.

• [-112.65.-38] I could easily have walked past this insanely deep cave had it not been for a small bit of serendipity and a willy chicken. The entrance is only two blocks wide, but this cave may come close to bedrock.

Image Coordinates

There are several of these odd rock formations consuming various tiny islands around the periphery of the level. Difficult to climb and even harder to figure out why you would want to be up there in the first place.

My Review

That's "bait", not "bite" mind you. One of the better levels of the day, though everything is either a long hike or a long swim. This is an archipelago (I spawned in the water, twice) with many, many cows. If you're into leather, this is the place for you. There's also some really nice gravel and clay deposits dotted around the various islands, so that's interesting too. In between the islands is some deep water and on two occasions, I could hear zombies under the water (go figure).

• [40.65.303] I found three pieces of ice just randomly in the middle of an otherwise warm body of water
• [36.73.391] this is a lagoon cut into the base of a large mountain. There is also a spire in the middle, making it a good place to set up a cool, floating house. I'm thinking about playing this one later.
• [59.69.243] a gravel pit and cave combination
