Etymology

The Fender Stratocaster was the guitar of choice for Jimi Hendrix. He used it, among other places, when he performed his rendition of the national anthem at Woodstock.

My Review

The center of this map has one gigantic mass of mountains. You're going to find a ton of gravel as you travel around; no worries finding flint on this one. But the biggest feature (and the reason that travel is such a bear) is the epic quantities of water. The central island has few trees, so you either have to waste time planting more or head to one of the satellite islands. This means swimming... far! This seed is not for noobs.

Map

The center of the map has your mountains. The southwest corner is 90% flat with a single massive mountain making up the other 10%

Items of Interest

  • [208.68.292] massive alluvial gravel
  • [386.78.240] nice medium cove
  • [320.69.73] large hidi-hole with large coal

My Review

I actually first took a look at this board a week ago but I wanted to wait until I had the full map before I posted it. This board was awesome because there was a zombie spawn within inches of where I spawned. It was a perfectly formed square in the sand and the elevated pieces were the chests and the LSD pig. It doesn't get any easier than that. Unfortunately, that was the end of the pleasure ride, as this level is a tough one that I would reserve for expert players who want a challenge.

Items of Interest

  • [13.69.21] perfect square zombie spawn
  • [21.66.103] gravel
  • [72.69.177] red flower patch and gravel
  • [58.72.259] sound of zombies
  • [337.73.-198] pumpkins
  • [345.69.132] hidden cave
  • [191.67.186] large clay
  • [-148.67.-9] collapsing sand
  • [-165.65.137] lots of sheep

Well would you look at that? What strange phenomenon would create such a perfectly formed cube? Is it the work of volcanoes... or the devil?

My Review

This seed is defined by it's gently sloping hills that suddenly sheer off and become steep crashing cliffs. There are patches of desert throughout the map. I found three medium gravel formations within close proximity to each other. But, while all that is nice and there are plenty of landmarks to see, the reason to play this map is the massive cave at -113.74.-131. It is not to be missed.

My Review

What a fantastically evil place. You'll notice that the Angelique Desert consumes the majority of the right side of the map; I would avoid this area... it's a bit dry. Mount Barnabas, on the other hand, is located in the southwest quadrant and is a lovely place to visit -- if you like day-walking skeletons. Quentin Bay in the north has some nice deep water if you'd like to take your own life and Carolyn Island, brooding all by itself in the northeast corner, is a great spot to set up your summer home -- if the wolves don't get you, that is.

Items of Interest

I tried to narrow it down to just two shots, but I really liked all three so they're all here. First, a sweeping view of the desert encroaching on the rolling hills of the mainland. Below, this is a massive floater complete with single tree. You can find it (as you can see) at -306.73.201. At right, the sheer and stately cliffs of Mount Barnabas.

At first, this seed looked pretty bleak. However, this board really shaped up nicely and I would have no problem recommending it to someone who is just starting out. There are a lot of rivers and gravel beds in this level. I also found a small island that could easily be cultivated to house a large supply of sugar. All and all, plenty of wood and some nice hilly terrain makes this seed a good one.

I took a look at this entire seed map and I didn't find any ice or snow at all. This bodes well for me. There were a few really cool formations and plenty of wood, however this map isn't for beginners. If you want to have some real fun, set up your camp inside the large desert just south of the center of the map. Also, there is a particularly thick forest at about 215.64.0 that is dark enough to house daytime-creepers, so watch where you chop. I found a mushroom in a tree, a hefty desert, and several overhangs with trees and other plants growing on them.

So, here are some interesting formations for ya. First, there is a seriously long but narrow overhang, so it doesn't cast a shadow that can protect creepers but is still really cool. My Review

I seriously considered not putting this one up because for me to even insinuate that something Star Wars related might not be epically awesome would endanger my own life. But then I figured, "eh, we all gotta go somehow, right?" This seed has a lot of land bridges and sugar. You can also find some suspicious gravel formations that look like they could collapse at any moment revealing an awesome cave. But overall, this seed really didn't hold my interest, though I wouldn't mind recommending it for noobies. There is, however, a deep and convoluted cave system that would keep experts well entertained, so don't think there's nothing for you guys.

This is an interesting river level, featuring multiple rivers (including a dried up river bed) snaking their way through the mountains. Getting out of the rivers is tricky because in some places there are sheer cliffs that guard the river banks. As far as wood goes, I spawned in a tree so that should tell you something. Other great resources I found were coal, flowers, and sugar. Final verdict: I think this one is worth a look.

By the time we named this level, we were really running out of words. However, in practice this turned out to be a really nice level. Very scenic, it was a pleasure to walk around in. Lots of peninsulas and gravel. I rated this as expert because there is little wood and even less other readily accessible resources. This one can be a real challenge.

Well, this seed is not what you would call a winner. The forests are very distant apart and clumped together, so it's hard to find wood when you need it. There is a large desert and plenty of gravel, but other than that, it's slim pickings. I was impressed with the elevated overhang in the photo at top because if you look carefully, you can see a cow that was living up there. I don't think that's what they had in mind when they say that hamburgers can raise your cholesterol. The rest of the board is barren and forgettable.

Items of Interest

  • [-41.76.174] a deep cave
  • [-91.65.151] two large gravel pits separated by some dirt
  • [-161.67.134] a sea cave that goes back quite a ways behind an elevated platform big enough to hold a nice sized house.
  • [-335.79.-64] a deep cave with heavy coal deposits
  • [-345.75.-134] a cute little hidi-hole
  • [-321.75.-147] I don't know why, but there's a huge number of yellow flowers here. I figured I'd mention it in case you're looking to plant a garden.

Image Coordinates

I would never crow about a level whose only features were gravel and snow -- though both are readily available in this seed. In few other maps do you have to climb this far up just to climb so far down. The caves on this map are quite treacherous. One wrong step can cut your health in half -- or worse. Your whole existence is going to be about producing torches.

I had a great spawn point on this one that had a hidi-hole filled with iron. Go figure! You're going to find lots of sheep -- including a few black sheep -- and lots of gravel. This is a great board for beginners with some really cool rock formations and a land bridge that is part sand and part rock.

  • [0.78.91] there's an interesting path through a mountain that you can see through from one end to the other which makes it like a natural doorway
  • [398.66.-348] I didn't have time to investigate, but there's a gravel pit here with zombie noises coming from underneath. Look into that for me.
  • [-91.69.0] a valley that runs between two cliffs in the southwest of the map. Very scenic.
  • [324.68.-215] a shortcut cave

Image Coordinates

The top image is of a land bridge that's part sand and part mud. Really cool. You can find that at 217.85.-183. The image at right is the mouth of a cave that I didn't feel like climbing up to because it's wedged between two steep cliffs.

My Review

One of two that I did by request today (wednesday13) for Terantatek, a guy on the GamesFAQs forum. This seed is a nice archipelago that features a large number of squid and pigs. It's very balanced between mountains and trees. It's easy to get around and features some interesting caves. Beginners should stay near the spawn point if they give it a shot; the level is loaded with baddies that pile out of the caves during the day. The north-northeast section of the map is dominated by desert. Given how often I heard zombies just under the surface while walking around, I'm guessing there are some nice farming to be done. But I'll leave that for you to find.

Items of Interest

  • [132.69.-4] pre-built hidi-hole
  • [213.67.-63] a shortcut cave featuring good iron deposits
  • [214.65.-116] a really deep cave
  • [208.69.-125] I call it Sandy Gravel Cave
  • [357.79.-259] near the edge, I heard zombies under the ground

Image Coordinates

The corner shot I took may seem like a standard, boring randomly-generated seed, but looks can be deceiving. While swimming around, I discovered this cave on an island. It has some nice coal deposits. No coords.

My Review

It's not just that this seed has great hills, it's that it has so many great hills I had to fight to narrow down the screenshots to just two. Sadly, I lost that battle, so I'm including a third screenshot just because I can. Unless you're looking for squid, you're not going to find any amazing excess of resources. But this level isn't about that; it's about looking at pretty mountains. So have at it.

Items of Interest

  • [44.66.183] hidi-hole plus gravel pit plus coal
  • [1.60.124] zombie sounds coming from the bottom of the lake; not too far down
  • [81.73.-41] welcome to the desert
  • [119.67.6] gravel pit
  • [293.82.105] cliff-side hidi-hole with a great view

Image Coordinates

The top image is a shot of the twin peaks from across the lake near where I spawned. The second shot (above) explains it all: little bit of peaks nestled in a whole lotta trees in the southeast of the seed at 208.73.110. The shot at right is a view from a great cliff-side hidi-hole shortcut cave with a view of a gnarled looking overhang. You can find it at 293.82.105.

My Review

This seed gets a beginner rating because even though there are few trees, most of them are concentrated around the spawn area, so it works out well for noobs. In addition, there are very few caves from whence enemies may launch a sneak attack. Beyond that, if you like caves, swim out to the mini islands. If you like icy gravel, then stay where you are.

Items of Interest

  • [-350.71.236] a deep cave

A pyramid mountain on the edge of the map; I'm convinced someone is buried in there. You can find it at -399.79.0.

My Review

My homage to the greatest game in history (that's right, I said it!!!) is actually a very nice Minecraft seed -- if you're SUICIDAL! It's really nice that this world has such deep waters because that's where you should spend most of your time... almost drowning. The spawn point (in the extreme north of the map) is horrific -- one of the worst I've seen. There's just nothing. Head due east for wood. Much of the water is covered in ice, so you don't have to swim as often as you would think. Lots of gravel and clay. Now, you'd think I would tell you to avoid this level, but it's actually quite beautiful with many, many interesting features. So, I'd give it a shot -- if you're SUICIDAL! My God, you were actually considering checking this one out, weren't you. You sick bastard!

Items of Interest

  • [200.68.64] a decent cave
  • [235.67.51] a really deep cave
  • [400.70.331] PUMPKINS!!! (and lava)

Image Coordinates

The top image is a really decent cave I found at 200.68.64. The image at right is a deep resource/hidi-hole spot I found, however, I forgot to write down the coords. Sorry.

My Review

That's "bait", not "bite" mind you. One of the better levels of the day, though everything is either a long hike or a long swim. This is an archipelago (I spawned in the water, twice) with many, many cows. If you're into leather, this is the place for you. There's also some really nice gravel and clay deposits dotted around the various islands, so that's interesting too. In between the islands is some deep water and on two occasions, I could hear zombies under the water (go figure).

Items of Interest

  • [19.68.171] a hidden cave
  • [40.65.303] I found three pieces of ice just randomly in the middle of an otherwise warm body of water
  • [36.73.391] this is a lagoon cut into the base of a large mountain. There is also a spire in the middle, making it a good place to set up a cool, floating house. I'm thinking about playing this one later.
  • [59.69.243] a gravel pit and cave combination

Image Coordinates

The top photograph is a four corners shot looking out toward the northeast island. The image at right is a shot of the lagoon in the mountain at 36.73.391.

Third best of the day. This seed has two things going for it. One is the easily accessible lava pits and the other is the massive crater at the top of the big mountain. This crater was so huge I couldn't shoot a photo of it. The top of the crater is usually obscured by clouds, so you can actually fall into it if you come in over the top and are unaware that it's there. Luckily, there's a shortcut; a collapsed entryway that you can sort of see through and dig through to enter in the middle. Amazingly, this seed is incredibly well balanced, illustrated by the premium award standing without earning any of the other awards. Oh, and there's lots of squid here, too.

Items of Interest

It's all about the massive pit: 30.92.271. It's quite a hike from the spawn, so make sure you bring lots of supplies.

Image Coordinates

A nice view of the balanced portion near the river bed. There's even a small lava pit just off screen to the right of this view. Sorry, no coords.

My Review

The single best board of the day was bookended by the two worst of the day -- including this one... the worst. This board was so flat I didn't even have to space myself to take a photo of it. It's flat. Flat. Flat. No mountains or hills. There are many, many squid in the deep and complex ocean waters surrounding the sands of this desolate, barren sandbar. Huge swaths of gravel, if you happen to go that way. I would not recommend this for a beginner and experts and above may be able to find subterranean caverns to make it interesting, but I suspect that's going to take some serious patience.

Items of Interest

Nada.

This view won because it was the first one out of my camera. I hold it in no special regard.
