Seed Number: -839288368
Version: XBL 1.4 (TU9) (no PC equiv)
This was the first seed I tested today and I scored a homerun right off the bat. I like this terrain. The northwest corner has a major swamp situation happening. Other than that, though, this is a well balanced yet very challenging map. Given the crazy cliffs in this one and some of the other features, this is really for those who like a hard challenge.
I would like to mention that in the list below, I have a lone pumpkin at 79.64.-312. He is the sole betrayer of a huge underground ravine/waterfall setup that is of interest to anyone who plays this board. But, please -- take him with you when you find him. For the love of James Lipton: he's all alone.

To begin with, there is very little physical land in this seed; it's mostly the main island and then a ring of smaller islands and atolls to the north and east. This seed is ruled by the sands. It's mostly a big desert and you're going to have to dig to find items of interest. There are many hidden caves scattered throughout the map. If you know how to find such things, then this level is for you. Of course, you don't know how to find these things because they're hidden. That's what hidden means, people: for not to find stuff. Do not spend hours wondering around this level in tears digging random holes in the sand. This seed is for people who want to build glass houses and then blow them up with TNT.
A sand dune piled up against a massive butte in the background pretty much explains the amount of sand you're going to find in this seed. At right, I call this one "The Unzipped Zipper". Not really, but it was a really cool formation and absolutely lousy with bad guys. You can find it at -96.73.30.

Inland lakes and hidden caves are the flavor of choice for this particular seed. This is definitely a good seed for beginners, as there is a great balance and plenty of trees. My spawn point was nice and even had a little coal in it. While I found several hidden caves, the one at -24.65.-133 clearly had the most potential, though you're going to need a pickaxe and a shovel to make any headway.
A nice thick forest on the end of this peninsula greets you. Beyond, you can just make out some steep mountains.

This seed is a great seed for two reasons. First, the surface has some very interesting formation, some great mountains with deep, flat basins, and plenty of resources to simply scoop up as you're wondering around. Secondly -- and more importantly -- I found through sheer happenstance an underground lava lake and cave complex that is absolutely massive. It is so much so of a must-see that I took the Can't Miss portion out of this write-up and gave it it's own post with photos and instructions. This thing is gorgeous. But even if you're not one to dig down for your fun, this seed sands on its own as a premium-rated seed.
Above is the first ever episode of "This Old Seed". Here is me showing you exactly how to get to the Epic Cave of Fire. The link below goes to the special bonus post I wrote up on the same subject.
So, I took a hike into The Nether on this level. I spawned in a very bland underground tunnel system that dead-ended in every direction save one. When I climbed up to the bedrock wall and then stair-stepped my way through up to the main level, the world really opened up.
Really interesting here was the lava island, located in the middle of the primary lava lake underneath of a thick overhang. This would be a perfect spot to build a little house -- provided you could get there.
Warning: the following list contains coordinates and descriptions of the majority of resources and other features in this seed. If you prefer to discover these things on your own, skip ahead to the final paragraph.
[Update: September 2] I have been playing this seed off and on exploring all the caves connected to the Epic Cave of Fire. I used 155 torches. Here is a list of all the things in my chests that were naturally visible or happened to be mined while trying to connect one section to another:
Here is an interesting rocky outcrop from the side of a mountain. At bottom, you can see the top of a nice hidi-hole. At right, this is one of the two photos I took of the Epic Cave of Fire. The "bridges" that you see crossing the lava were added by me so that I could get inside this thing. Bring lots of torches.
As for the shots I got from The Nether, the first one is of a nice island in the middle of the lava lake. The second is a wide open view of the entire nether area from where I dug myself out of the underground tunnel system where my portal spawned.

I took a look at this entire seed map and I didn't find any ice or snow at all. This bodes well for me. There were a few really cool formations and plenty of wood, however this map isn't for beginners. If you want to have some real fun, set up your camp inside the large desert just south of the center of the map. Also, there is a particularly thick forest at about 215.64.0 that is dark enough to house daytime-creepers, so watch where you chop. I found a mushroom in a tree, a hefty desert, and several overhangs with trees and other plants growing on them.
Warning: the following list contains spoiler locations for the major landmarks and items available in this seed. If you prefer to discover these things on your own, skip ahead to the bottom paragraph.
So, here are some interesting formations for ya. First, there is a seriously long but narrow overhang, so it doesn't cast a shadow that can protect creepers but is still really cool. At right, this thing is like a mothership hovering above Los Angeles during any one of a dozen alien invasion movies. Good luck building on this thing; the sand isn't all that stable.

Welcome to the next of my ongoing series of obsession-based bracketed seeds. "[25]" is a good seed with plenty of hills and interesting things to see. For instance, I found a good sized hidi-hole that comes complete with it's own built-in waterfall and drilled through the top of a mountain is another fantastic shortcut cave that could easily be renovated into a lighthouse or lookout tower. Just gorgeous.
The photo above was taken from 187.65.-12. It's of an island off the mainland that has some good places to build a house and raise a family. Of course, you'll have to bring the wood, but we can't do all the work for you.

This is an expert-level archipelago with a few caves and plenty of deep water to explore. This level has many, many chickens. I don't know why you would care, but they were quite annoying. Several of them did not survive my wrath. The main island has a large desert peninsula that may contain some surprises. In fact, I spawned there, but then headed off in the other direction scouting for trees. I found many... elsewhere.
There are several of these odd rock formations consuming various tiny islands around the periphery of the level. Difficult to climb and even harder to figure out why you would want to be up there in the first place.

This place is a snowy wasteland. As far as trees and other essentials are concerned, it's slim pickings. At the spawn, they maroon you on a sandbar. There are some quirks to this level, like hidden pitfall caves with only a single cube hole at the top and trees that grow out of water. Both were interesting to see, but the level as a whole is probably a pass unless you're into climbing either up or down.
Just when I thought this level had nothing for me, I damn near killed myself stumbling into a massive hidden cave at 247.65.106 -- nowhere near the spawn, but still worth the trip if you want to see the hole I fell through. There's also a lake inside of a gorge at 75.69.260.
The above view is a three corners view of the main island from the spawn point sandbar.
