My Review

This seed is all about where you get spawned. The west side of this map is a frozen hunk of ice, though it does contain a lot of trees. The east side of the map, however, is a lush island paradise and highly recommended. This is one of the flatter maps I've ever traversed. Had it not been for the swimming, I would have finished this map in record time. And even swimming to the islands wasn't too bad because there are rocks and sandbars along the way, so really in terms of navigation, this seed plays quite nicely.

Items of Interest

  • [-374.65.-216] hidi-hole
  • [-125.83.-308] shortcut cave
  • [-28.82.-388] large hidi-hole
  • [331.66.339] a wolf pit
  • [361.66.367] lava pit
  • [-57.65.370] an eye-shaped medium land bridge
  • [-340.65.-8] large land bridge with waterfall
  • [-313.65.0] lava pit with nearby water for obsidian generator
  • [134.65.69] large clay on a medium-sized flat beach
  • [112.64.-62] hidden medium cave

Images

This land bridge is pouring water onto the frozen sea that runs underneath it. I can't recall seeing anything like that before. If you look very closely at the image, you can make out a small, low-hanging floater in the background.

My Review

What a fantastically evil place. You'll notice that the Angelique Desert consumes the majority of the right side of the map; I would avoid this area... it's a bit dry. Mount Barnabas, on the other hand, is located in the southwest quadrant and is a lovely place to visit -- if you like day-walking skeletons. Quentin Bay in the north has some nice deep water if you'd like to take your own life and Carolyn Island, brooding all by itself in the northeast corner, is a great spot to set up your summer home -- if the wolves don't get you, that is.

I tried to narrow it down to just two shots, but I really liked all three so they're all here. First, a sweeping view of the desert encroaching on the rolling hills of the mainland. Below, this is a massive floater complete with single tree. You can find it (as you can see) at -306.73.201. At right, the sheer and stately cliffs of Mount Barnabas.

My Review

This is quite possibly the hardest level you could play. Why? Because if you look closely at the map, there are about three trees in the northeast corner, two trees in the southwest corner, and NOTHING in between but snow and death. I can't imagine the horror that would be this level on anything other than creative. This was second worst of the day only because the vast frozen gulf is easy to walk across and the resources (coal, iron) are easily found. This is the kind of level where even torches are a waste of good wood. My advice: make one torch and just keep moving it around with you. The only person who could be happy in a place like this would have to be related to Jor-El.

My Review

I seriously considered not putting this one up because for me to even insinuate that something Star Wars related might not be epically awesome would endanger my own life. But then I figured, "eh, we all gotta go somehow, right?" This seed has a lot of land bridges and sugar. You can also find some suspicious gravel formations that look like they could collapse at any moment revealing an awesome cave. But overall, this seed really didn't hold my interest, though I wouldn't mind recommending it for noobies. There is, however, a deep and convoluted cave system that would keep experts well entertained, so don't think there's nothing for you guys.

The sun rises majestically just beyond a solitary hill flanked by a series of interesting spires. At right, a not-so-artsy shot that I took when I first spawned. It shows the good balance between open land and tree-covered hills that you're going to see in this level.

So, I figured I'd try all the numbers and see what that got me. Not bad, but it could have been a lot better. Aside from a few really nice formations (including the spire in the top photograph), a few packs of wolves, and challenges from some shadow-protected bad guys, this level is actually quite boring. There's a good number of trees, but serious threats and pitfalls abound, making this a level not suited for beginners.

Items of Interest

  • [77.71.51] a small cave

This is a big fat spire that grows out of the ground right next to the rushing waters of a waterfall pouring out of the mountain that I'm on (just out of frame). At right, this is a great overhang I found with deep shadows that allows this skeleton to remain perfectly healthy and on patrol during the day.

A lot of awards are being handed out today and this level is no exception. The location where I spawned was amazing -- both in terms of visual attractiveness and collecting-tons-of-free-shit attractiveness. There was an above-ground, pre-built skeleton spawn farm ready to go with two chests of awesome stuff (including saddles). Beyond the cool spawn, the seed proper is also very interesting. It's mostly desert. In fact, it's kinda like walking around inside a Van Gogh painting. I saw a pig commit suicide by running into a cactus. I'm not sure, but I may have been hallucinating in the dry desert heat. Grandpa, is that you?

Items of Interest

  • [4.80.-12] a cave full of skeletons
  • [-2.67.-31] skeleton farm with a ring of moss stone and two chests full of crap. There is also another cave nearby.
  • [65.65.-74] clay deposit
  • [-67.75.-13] a short cliff diving experience
  • [48.120.52] Grandpa Willy

Images

The vast desert stretches out before me. Hope I have enough water. At right, this is the crazy skeleton farm with moss ring and first chest. The second chest is to the left under the sand. If you look closely, you can see that there's actually a cave that runs under this thing if you dig down.

So, I spawn in this level and start gathering sand just in case I fall into a hole or something an I have to get back out in a hurry (you know how it goes). Three digs in, I fall into a cave. Now, normally that would be a good sign, but this level has many shallow caves but not very many deep ones, so don't expect too much spelunking. It turns out -- once I extricated myself from my spawn hole -- that this level is a nice archipelago full of wolves and some nice pockets of resources. Worth a try.

Hopefully, you can tell from the image above that this seed has a nice balance when it comes to biomes.

This seed is a frozen wasteland that offers very little in the way of resources -- like trees or coal. There are some good caves full of enemies and also some wolves about.

Items of Interest

  • [182.65.227] dual caves full of coal and iron
  • [319.61.126] this is a crazy pitfall cave that plummets straight down. A huge challenge for anyone who's into spelunking.
  • [383.70.112] a cool lava fall
  • [364.77.133] a cave full of skeletons
  • [288.69.-39] Wolf Cave, so named because of a nearby wolf pack that kept visiting the area.

Image Coordinates

The image at the top is looking south from my spawn point at one of the only interesting set of formations on the whole board. At right, this is a view looking south at a spot near where I spawned. There are these two microspires that stick up out of the water that I thought were interesting.

There are five "o"s in sooooo (just sayin'). The two things that you're going to notice over and over again in this level are the epic supply of lumber and the really odd boxy mountains that dot the canvas. There are many wolves, here. In fact, I would highly recommend this level for any beginner looking to earn his or her first pet wolf.

Items of Interest

  • [-38.67.24] a wolf was stuck on a ledge of this deep cave when I arrived. Whatever you do, don't try to help the wolf because if you kill it, you'll get jumped from all directions.
  • [-36.77.-113] a seriously complex cave system featuring four caves of various depth
  • [-130.98.-256] a tree-infested climb to the top of this mountain is epic

Image Coordinates

There's certainly a lot of these boxy mountains around.

I liked this board. This is the second request (murderdolls) I took a look at today for Terantatek, a guy on the GamesFAQs forum. There is a large mountain due east of the place where I spawned. This is full of wood and hidi-holes making it an excellent starting point. However, it's not for beginners. While there is plenty of wood, this level is a behemoth with many mountains that are difficult to traverse. Getting away from enemies was a problem on more than one occasion and it's also worth noting that in certain places the trees were so thick that enemies lurked even during the day. In fact, it took me five minutes to climb past a mountain because it was so steep and so massive that I had no other choice but to stop and mine my way over it. Now that's a good time!

Items of Interest

  • [-324.72.-36] coal, floaters, and some interesting spires
  • Due south of the spawn, I found two packs of wolves.
  • [-158.73.-14] pumpkins plus a shortcut cave with a deep cave connected to it in the middle.

Image Coordinates

The first shot is actually a four corners shot -- even though it doesn't look like it because that massive fucking mountain is in the way. That thing consumes a huge chunk of the board. The photo at right is one of the few places you can rest and cover good distance, with some steep mountains in the background.

This seed is one of the most popular seeds that's been making the rounds on the Internet and it's easy to see why. There are land bridges and overhangs a plenty. I found lots of clay, a whole lotta bacon (pigs), and I even stumbled across a cave that has moss stone right inside the front door. I was amazed. Beyond that, you'll be surprised by the number of wolves in this level. You could easily explore this level for hours -- especially given how jagged the terrain is -- and I would encourage you to do just that.

Items of Interest

  • [-24.64.-179] deep cave
  • [-6.78.-263] a whole fleet of caves; possible network
  • [-52.73.-344] a great little hidi-hole well to the north of the spawn point
  • [-160.65.-358] the cave where I found the moss stone

Image Coordinates

An incredible land bridge to the immediate east of the spawn area at 0.65.0. The image at right is an amazing set of features. The one on the right looks like a Star Wars AT-AT. No coords on this one.

In this seed, you want to head due south for some fun. That's where the massive waterfall is, that's where the wolves are, that's where the caves full of baddies are. I spawned in a tree, which is usually a good sign for beginners. But this isn't their kind of seed. The terrain is foreboding, and no matter where you're going, you have to climb up and down to get there. Some of the mountains are so high that you can't see where you're going once you get to the top because of the clouds. That's when the creepers in the nearby caves come to get you. If you ever wanted a pet wolf (feed them bones), this is the pet store to get one.

  • [132.83.145] a deep cave

So, it's a shame because the very first seed I randomly picked turned out to be one of the worst of the day. There is a large amount of trees and some lakes that look like they may have some secrets buried within, so it did score highly in those categories, but there isn't much of anything else. Overall, I found the map to be quite boring.

Items of Interest

I did find an unusually large number of sugar plants and wolves. There was also a vast lake with a deep bed as well as a single hill with a sheer cliff and cave. This is slightly far from the spawn at 200.72.-148.

Image Coordinates

The above view is the only interesting "cave" on the island. It is actually under the water on the left.
