Etymology

Einstein's famous equation (known as the Mass–energy equivalence) is the stuff of legend. It allows physicists to explain mathematically the resting potential energy of any object and links energy with mass -- a theory which at the time was revolutionary. Little known fact, E=mc2 is not the entire equation... only the part that people remember. The full equation adds a term that incorporates the energy at rest. However, when I tried the full equation, I was not impressed, so I used the one we all know and it worked great.

A reminder -- the "E" in the above seed name is capitalized. Obviously, since the Xbox doesn't do superscript, the "squared" is just a "2".

My Review

This was a really nice level. There are many interesting features to see above ground, some interesting caves and complexes to explore, and a higher-than-average amount of resources floating around for the taking. But beyond that, the one thing this level will probably become known for are the really cool bays, coves, and inlets that are scattered everywhere -- especially the islands. I spawned in a tree; while usually a harbinger of good wood, the forests in this level are a patchwork mostly confined to the northwest island and the spider-web archipelago. This seed as a ton of sugar. The barren and icy-cold northwest portion of the map is the only major flaw in this otherwise excellent seed.

From underneath, this cluster of overhangs and land bridges scar the sky. The sheer cliff walls on either side create a valley that houses (among other things) a waterfall and a thick forest. At right, this is a medium-sized cave complex. At foot (out of frame) is a pitfall cave and there are some good coal spots in here.

My Review

Well, the good and bad of this level is that you're trading trees for lava pits. There are no less than three lava pits on this level. The trees are located in the extreme south and east parts of the map; the rest of the map is barren and mostly made of ice. Patches of snowy wasteland and dried-up desert make this a seed that's best left to experienced adventurers looking for a challenge.

At top, this small cove has eroded away some of the neighboring hillside. As for the image at right, this is a very interesting cave. Firstly, there's a waterfall that will take you all the way to the bottom -- past, as it turns out, a lava fall. Conveniently, you can make it all the way to the bottom and then back up by swimming the waterfall. However, the bottom is just a hole. There's no cave. So you'll need tools and stuff to make this thing useful.

My Review

This is one of the best seeds I've found so far. It is chock full of all kinds of amazing formations and great mountains to climb. Second best of the day only because of the massive ice sheet in the bottom left corner that negates about a quarter of the map, I would recommend this board to anyone just so they can see it. Just make sure you've got something built by dusk or you're doomed. This level is particularly awesome because the amazing features are scattered across the whole of the map. So I can't really send you to one quadrant to see them all, you're going to have to take a hike. Don't worry... it's worth it.

I'm sorry: there was no way that I was limiting this seed to just two photographs; it is way too good looking. I can't swear that the sugarcane will be growing out of the lava fall when you get there, but this is what I found while wondering around at night. Below that, this is a thick, overhang/land bridge combination that provides a fair amount of shade for day walkers.

At right, here are three bonus images that really help sell how diverse and exciting this seed really is. The first is a shot of what technically is an overhang attached to a tall, ultra-thin spire. If you planned it right, you could run a stairwell all the way to the top with about twenty cobblestone.

Below that, I found this perfect obelisk standing in the middle of a field. The final image is a shot of a massive multi-directional overhang situated above a medium-sized lava fall. Also near this location was a deep pitfall cave. If you plant your stones right, you could conceivably descend from Y=100 to bedrock in about one minute.

My Review

This dirty archipelago has fantastic deep water and several flatland locations for villages or large houses. You're going to find many tiny islands about, including a tiny island with a lava pit due north on the map that's custom made for generating obsidian. In the western part of the map, you'll find a medium-sized desert, but the rest of the map is well-balanced.

This was the first of three seeds that had truly large hanging floaters. This one looks like it was sheered off of it's neighboring rock by some supernatural force. At right, this is a massive spire that is so big you could live on top of the thing. A perfect place to set up a house to weather the storms of nightly enemies. You can wrap a stairwell around this puppy at 383.69.-145.

My Review

As you can see from the map, this level basically looks like an island got yanked off the mainland. I spawned in a tree -- so you know finding wood isn't going to be a problem. However, not finding wood when you're trying to walk in a straight line is an issue when you find the dense forests on the west side of the map. The west end also has many caves. There are, however, several flat areas on the east island that would be perfect construction places for towns. So this seed has quite a range of biomes.

My Review

Continuing on my volcano themed seeds, be careful of the spelling on this one. It's "magma" plus "nimous" -- not the word "magnanimous", a word that means generous or forgiving. I assure you, this level is neither. Harsh conditions begin with a lack of wood and intensify if you try to go anywhere and have to swim there. I saw very little that was visually appealing. This one is a pass for beginners and a play for people looking for a really tough challenge or a flat plain to build a village.

My Review

Apparently, according to my sister there is a quasi-famous pop group called Clay Nation that I've never heard of and don't care about. This seed has nothing to do with them. I attempted to create a large quantity of clay using this seed name and guess what... it worked! There is clay all over this level -- especially on Clay Island -- but there's more. There is plenty of sugar on this level for all you librarians out there. In addition, the south island is basically an empty shell that's hiding a massive cave complex. So be careful where you dig, because it can all end really badly. Without question, this map should be reserved for advanced users.

Can't Miss

So, I field questions all the time about my fascination with deep water. Not many people share it, but I for one am thrilled when I fall deep below the surface and uncover some cave or zombie spawn. Well, here's an example of deep water exploration (even though it's not that deep).

At -364.65.153, if you look off the southwest corner of the island, you will find a gaping hole in the ocean floor behind which sits glowing lava. If you swim down, you'll find a lava pit with a waterfall flowing into it. I can't swear that this isn't a glitch, so I hope it's there when you get there, but even if it isn't, dig in this spot and you'll find it. However, take caution: the entire floor is lava so you have to do some fancy swimming if you want to get in there without dying.

My Review

I was really hoping that guavalava would work out because it would be catchy because it rhymes. Though it is a nice level, it's not the must-see I was banking on. Also, I didn't find lava, but I did find pumpkins. Well balanced and easy to navigate, this level is one half icy and one half green. I explored the south end of the map and found lots of sugar and hidi-holes, but no deep caves or interesting mountain formations. Maybe up north is better, but from what I saw I rate this a slight challenge for a beginner.

My Review

I was reading about Mitt Romney and it inspired this seed name (Kolob is the name of the planet where Mitt is allowed to go if he wins the Presidency). This seed may not be anything to write home about, but it's not without it's charm. I really like the deep water on this level; I think there could be some interesting stuff to find there. A couple of spires and several really dense forests make this a dream level for anyone just starting out. I'd recommend it to any noob.

My Review

Normally, a board that scores this low wouldn't get a map, but there was something very interesting about this map that made me want to see what the whole thing looked like. And I'm really glad I did. The island in the southwest corner is a really cool mix of forest, grassland, and desert. As for the rest of the map, you're light on trees and most of the caves require digging and luck to find them, so for that this map is not recommended for beginners. Though rated low (second worst of the day), any map with an instant obsidian maker is worth checking out.

My Review

This was from the wishful thinking pile. I asked it to give me clay and you know what? It gave me clay. I found several open air clay deposits peppered throughout the map. Amazing. So, if you feel strongly about building your castle out of bricks, then this is the place to do so. Outside of that piece of irony, the board itself is lovely. It's a good spot for beginners since there is plenty of wood and some really nice starter caves. The primary island runs latitudinal with microislands bordering on the north and south. As a rule, north is more frozen than south and there are lots of squid on the island.

My Review

At first, this seed looked pretty bleak. However, this board really shaped up nicely and I would have no problem recommending it to someone who is just starting out. There are a lot of rivers and gravel beds in this level. I also found a small island that could easily be cultivated to house a large supply of sugar. All and all, plenty of wood and some nice hilly terrain makes this seed a good one.

My Review

I could not finish this seed fast enough. The second I saw this thing, I knew I had discovered something awesome. You could, theoretically walk through about 40% of this board and be like, "What? This thing is crap. It's all flat and boring." Keep walking! When you get to the southwest quadrant, that's when all hell is going to break loose. Craters, creepers, overhangs, multiple land bridges conjoining, pitfalls, and some things you've got to see to believe. If you're a beginner, load it up just to see it, but don't expect to survive. Experts: good luck. I was this close (you can't see it, but I'm indicating with narrow fingers) to rating this one suicidal. This board has so many landmarks that I couldn't write them all down on a single piece of paper and, indeed, if I've missed any, please add them in the comments below along with the coordinates.

How difficult is this level, you may be asking? Well I'll tell you. I played this thing first on creative wussy mode -- AND DIED when I took a header off the top of a mountain and fell from 128 to 64. Alright. Then I played it on normal and had my ass handed to me as, apparently, I may be a beginner. This board is epic.

Can't Miss

I could choose any number of things that this board has that you'd have to see. However, one in particular was stunning. It wasn't the perfectly formed crater and it wasn't the mountain above the cloud line and it wasn't any of the floaters -- of which there are MANY! No. At 243.72.15, I found what I will refer to as the "Black Waterfall" -- a waterfall contained within a shortcut cave that is so narrow and dark that no light illuminates the water. It is without question unique, beautiful, and guarded by creepers in the dozens if you play anything other than creative. It is a must-see attraction.

This is not even close to a complete list, by the way. There were cliff-side caves I couldn't get to and floaters I could barely see and couldn't get the coordinates for. The northwest quadrant has a desert of all things and there is a large amount of flat land for those who like to build large castles. There is truly something for everyone on this board.

There was no way I was doing this review with only two photos. You'll have to bear with me as I try to cover all of these shots.

So, working from top to bottom, this is a general shot of the southwest quadrant that shows two waterfalls converging and then running to the ocean. You can also see an overhang on the right covered in trees that houses some creepers.

Next is two massive floaters hovering above an already elevated hilltop. Deep in the background of this particular shot, you can see the tallest of the mountains.

Third is the double waterfall shot. There are no less than twenty waterfalls in this seed. The final large shot is a thick land bridge adjacent to a lava pit (left). Many skeletons live under here.

The final three shots are the smaller ones to the right. The first shows a variety of formations you're going to find here, including a heavy overhang that casts a deep shadow. Next is a waterfall that was near my spawn, unique in that there's a cave behind it. Finally, the last shot is a conflagration of several land bridges that leaves this massive area in perpetual nighttime.

My Review

I seriously considered not putting this one up because for me to even insinuate that something Star Wars related might not be epically awesome would endanger my own life. But then I figured, "eh, we all gotta go somehow, right?" This seed has a lot of land bridges and sugar. You can also find some suspicious gravel formations that look like they could collapse at any moment revealing an awesome cave. But overall, this seed really didn't hold my interest, though I wouldn't mind recommending it for noobies. There is, however, a deep and convoluted cave system that would keep experts well entertained, so don't think there's nothing for you guys.

The sun rises majestically just beyond a solitary hill flanked by a series of interesting spires. At right, a not-so-artsy shot that I took when I first spawned. It shows the good balance between open land and tree-covered hills that you're going to see in this level.

My Review

This is an interesting river level, featuring multiple rivers (including a dried up river bed) snaking their way through the mountains. Getting out of the rivers is tricky because in some places there are sheer cliffs that guard the river banks. As far as wood goes, I spawned in a tree so that should tell you something. Other great resources I found were coal, flowers, and sugar. Final verdict: I think this one is worth a look.

My Review

Visually stunning -- albeit devoid of trees -- this seed has many thick land bridges that cast heavy shadows across the map. There are also lava falls and a huge pumpkin patch that are must sees. However, there is plenty of space in between the mountains that you can move around freely without having to continuously stop to climb something. This is a great level that would have been the finest of the day had it not been for one other fluke level I found that edged it out.

My Review

Courtland is a nice solid level that would be attractive to beginners. You're going to find plenty of wood and other visible resources as you're walking around, so no matter where you spawn you'll have hidi-holes and good places to build your dream house. In the south of the map, there is an island that is really interesting. I'd recommend it for seasoned players looking for a challenge.

My Review

This is an interesting lush forest level. I say forest level because it's thick with trees and, frankly, difficult to walk around in. If you ever wanted to build a mansion entirely out of wood, this may be your chance to do it. Sugar, clay, and black sheep can all be found in abundance.

My Review

This seed isn't going to win any Top 10 awards anytime soon, but I will tell you this -- the water in this level is epic. It's both vast and deep. I was at Y=57 for whole minutes at a time... except when I was breathing, of course. To say this is an archipelago is a laugh. There is a tiny island in the center of the level and then there are four big islands in each of the corners. Swimming is not an option. As for the islands themselves: unremarkable. You get the occasional hill, but that's about it. Worth playing to swim so far you start thinking drowning is the only way out, but not fun for anyone who isn't looking for a challenge.

My Review

This is a crazy good level. It has one of the tallest waterfalls I've seen on any board. I'm convinced you can make it to the top by swimming, but I don't have the skill to do it. Lots of lava and sugar are among the many landmarks I was able to find. This is definitely a well-balance level that would be great for beginners and present some interesting challenges to higher players.

Can't Miss

So, I'm walking along and I see something glowing in the water downstream. I get all excited and I thought it was either gold or a drowning pig. Either way, I was onboard. Low and behold, I get there and it's a lava fall pouring into the ocean. I mean DEEP into the ocean. Several blocks down. I'm hoping it's not just some glitch I had because it was really cool. It wasn't making stone or obsidian or anything, it was just falling through the water and glowing like a nightlight. Really cool.
